Founded by the ancient people of the Elimi, Trapani was long inhabited by the Carthaginians and Phoenicians, that made it a thriving colony.
To date, the Province of Trapani is extended on 24 common and occupies a large area of western Sicily, between the Gulf of Castellammare and the lower course of the river Belice. In practice extends to the entire western part of the island.
The city of Trapani, the ancient Drepanum, is wet between two seas: The Mediterranean and the Tyrrhenian.
On the summit of Monte San Giuliano (mt.751 s.l.m.), is the town Erice, accessible by cable car station is renowned peace with its houses and its medieval streets, offers beautiful scenery on the immense views offered.
The coasts of the province are outstretched in the Mediterranean, to Africa, are among the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Sicily and the various and beautiful islands which are the corollary to the territory of the Province, "Pantelleria volcanic, Egadi (Favignana, Levanzo and Marettimo) and islands of the Lagoon ".
